Project “Gift an Eid”

On the 16th of March, Chayar Asroy arranged a pre-Eid celebration at Shahid Rumi Sriti Library accommodating more than 30 children from Korail Slum.

The program was facilitated with public donations, collected via online payments. Our estimated donation goal was 20 thousand, and we advocated through social media posts and videos to collect donations. This amount was envisioned considering the prices for Eid dresses, Mehedi, and an Iftar arrangement.

The total amount collected was 30,823 taka, where our expenditure was 21,090 taka. The remaining fund was allocated to the welfare of underprivileged children. A detailed description of the expenditure was shared online for complete transparency.

The celebration started with an exciting Mehendi session where our volunteers gave Mehendi on their hands. It was followed by fun collective games, a book reading and music session. Then came the Maghrib Azan, in which started our iftar distribution among the children, who had iftar together along with the volunteers.

We ended the day with our long awaited Eid dress distribution, which our volunteers handpicked with care, tending to the children’s preferred choices and needs. The library was filled with the joyous laughter of children, reminding us what Eid really means.

Our aim was to share the Eid joy with children who rarely get the chance to celebrate this festival. We wanted to create a chance for them to experience common Eid traditions, such as Mehedi parties or Iftar celebrations. A new dress to wear, or a hand colored by Mehedi may be routine for us, but for these children it is a luxury. We wanted to show that their joy has just as much value as ours, and impart the spirit of collective brotherhood in Eid.
