On the 28th of August, Chayar Asroy collaborated with Shishu Neer Bangladesh, a welfare organisation dedicated to empowering underprivileged children and orphans to shape their own future. Working with 33 children from ages 5-11, we worked towards turning limited resources into infinite creative possibilities.
We decided to organize the event over a span of two days, combining theoretical learning with hands-on creative activities.
For our first session, we worked on implementation of basic shapes into creative artworks, as well as allowing them to experience the value of reusability firsthand. Creating simple shapes using cardboard and discarded clothing, the children created objects like boats, fishes and flowers, with our esteemed volunteers guiding them.
We also explored the causes and impacts of environmental pollution and reflected on the small but meaningful actions we can take to protect our planet.
For our second session on the 29th, we turned our conversations of sustainability into action. We discussed recycling, explored how plastic affects our environment and how we can make the best of what we already have around us. Then, with the help of our volunteers, the children transformed discarded plastic bottles into pen holders or flower vases.
Between every cut, paint, and creation came a little more learning, laughter, and a few rounds of Chinese Whisper, Stand Up Sit Down, Dosh Bish, and more. Through these simple activities, the children discovered that things we often throw away can be given a new purpose. A simple piece of plastic bottle can become a valuable, efficient pen holder, and a lesson can become a duty to nurture the world around them through creative expression and freedom.
