Event overview

On the joyous occasion of Pahela Baishakh, Chayar Asroy held its first ever session at Ramna Park, Shahbagh. In this session, with the help of our volunteers, we gathered various communities of local underprivileged children from 4-15 ages for a colorful, melodic session of interactive activities.

Near Shahbagh and surroundings we often see young children begging or selling things just to survive one passing day. They often don't have the means of having three meals a day let alone pursuing hobbies. Our event was organized to give them relief from their day to day struggle and bring out a moment of joy in their little hearts.

The session was held on a sunny day, with a picnic-like setting. We started with painting on an open canvas. The children were handed paints, brushes, pencils, pens to draw whatever their hearts wanted.

Then, we held our book reading and caricature session with the help of our partner BUTAM, who created and distributed unique caricatures. Our volunteers read story books and poems to the children gathered.

Lastly, we had a Baishakhi themed singing session where every participant as well as passerby joined in.

Our session at Ramna Park ended by evening where we distributed all the art materials, drawings, books and snacks. All the materials were collected by our previous donation programmes and from our volunteers.

Special collaboration with BUTAM

The primary objective of this session was to celebrate the spirit of Pohela Baishakh by creating a joyful and inclusive experience for underprivileged children who rarely have the opportunity to participate in such festivities. Through engaging activities, music, art, and meaningful interactions, we aimed to provide them with a temporary escape from the hardships of their daily lives and fill their day with happiness and hope. The session also sought to encourage the children to discover the value of creativity, hobbies, and self-expression, helping them understand that moments of joy and personal growth can exist despite difficult circumstances. Ultimately, the event was designed to foster a sense of belonging, confidence, and emotional well-being while allowing them to celebrate the Bengali New Year with dignity and smiles.
